Chelsea are off and running for the 2021-22 preseason with this morning’s 6-1 win over Peterborough United at Cobham, which took place behind closer doors and closed streams, but not closed cameras, so at least we have a few pictures.
According to reports, Chelsea ended up winning 6-1 despite conceding first, with 22 players involved, 20 of them getting 45 minutes each and the two goalkeepers switching at the hour mark. Chelsea kept to Tuchel’s standard 3-4-2-1 formation from last season, at least in the first half.
FIRST HALF (3-4-2-1)
Cumming | Sarr, Chalobah, Clarke-Salter | Alonso, Barkley, Drinkwater, Zappacosta | Pulisic, Abraham, Hudson-Odoi
Keeping with the silly amount of secrecy around this game, we don’t really know the full lineup for the second half, but from the names I could find, plus a few pictures floating around, it was something along the lines of this, though I’m not fully confident it’s correct.
SECOND HALF (4-3-3/3-4-3?)
Cumming/Bergström | Baba, Miazga, Sterling, Maatsen | Gallagher, Baker, Loftus-Cheek | Ugbo, Broja, Ziyech
After Peterborough opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Abraham got Chelsea back on level terms and Pulisic won and converted a penalty to put Chelsea ahead before the half. After the break, Ziyech grabbed a hat-trick and Broja got on the scoresheet as well.
All in all, sounds like a good workout, though hopefully we get at least some basic highlights in the near future.
Here’s a gallery of photos until then.
