Official: Preston North End sign Chelsea attacking midfielder Izzy Brown

A new permanent home

After going through seven loans in as many years while on Chelsea's books since 2013, Izzy Brown's contract with the Blues has come to an end earlier this month. With Izzy available as a free agent, Championship side Preston North End could not pass up the opportunity of signing the 24-year-old attacking midfielder on a one-year deal with an option to extend by another year.

Izzy Brown joined Chelsea from West Bromwich Albion back in 2013 as a promising and versatile youngster who could play anywhere across the front three or as a no.10. However, inconsistent showings and injury-riddled seasons on various loans severely diminished Izzy’s chances of making a claim for a spot in Chelsea's first-team squad.

Brown sole appearance for Chelsea came under José Mourinho at the end of the 2014-15 season as a substitute to Loïc Rémy during a 3-0 Premier League loss to West Bromwich, before he entered our Loan Army. But there is much more to life than making it at Chelsea and Izzy is elated to have joined Preston, with hopes of making his stay at the club a ‘legendary’ one.

"I’m over the moon to finally get this done. It’s been in the works for a couple of weeks now, but I’m absolutely delighted to be here.

“Now I’m getting to that age where I want to develop myself as a player and hopefully be a legend at a club, and I really feel like Preston’s a place where I could do that.”

Here's to wishing Izzy a successful and memorable time at Preston!
