Euro 2020/1, Day 12: Czech Republic vs. England, Croatia vs. Scotland

British fate on the line

The final matchday for Group D has an interesting setup, with the teams set to play against each other having the same amount of points — four for Czech Republic and England, and a single point for Croatia and Scotland.

Czech Republic has the edge over England thanks to a positive two-goal difference from their 2-0 win over Scotland. A draw will have both of them moving to knockout phase without worrying over being one of the competition’s best third-place teams in group stage.

On the bottom half of Group D, Croatia and Scotland will have to play for a win if they want to advance from the initial phase. A draw will likely not be enough to put them in the group of best third-place team at the Euros. And a second-place finish is still possible, although it will depend on a loss on the other side of the group (England’s loss benefits Scotland, Czech Republic’s loss benefits Croatia) and the winning team making up the negative goal difference they currently carry to overcome either England or Czech Republic in the tiebreaker.
