Chelsea Women’s 2020-21 season was a memorable one for all Blues fans across the globe. Lead by the efforts of Women’s Super League Golden Boot winner Sam Kerr and Player of the Year awards collector Fran Kirby, Chelsea were able to add a second consecutive WSL title and a League Cup trophy to their cabinet. We also reached the Women’s Champions League for the first time in the club’s history, although the loss to Barcelona in the final match of the competition was far from our best performance this entire year.
But a new season looms closer every passing second, and we already have a date to see the Blues back on the English pitches for the WSL — September 3rd, i.e. 74 days from now.
Matchdays have yet to be set, although our last two starts to the season were 4-0 and 9-0 demolitions of Bristol City. If the draw picks Bristol City to cross our paths in the opening match once again, we can only hope the end result will be a third consecutive WSL title by the end of the season.
Lest we forget, we shall also have the Community Shield played right before the WSL begins. If they keep the same format as last year we shall face FA WSL Cup winners Manchester City either a week before the league’s opening match, or at the same day as the men’s match on August 7th.
May we win it all!
