An almost perfect first-half from Chelsea saw Timo Werner waste a couple early chances, Antonio Rüdiger make a crucial block on Phil Foden, and Kai Havertz grab the lead just before half-time with a cool finish by way of a fantastic through ball from Mason Mount.
Chelsea went toe-to-toe with the favored opposition, and won the first 45.
The second half started on a much different note and that note only got louder, with City dominating proceedings and pressing for the equalizer, and Chelsea looking to keep things tight at the back and counter when given the chance.
And that gameplan worked very well, and almost to perfection but Christian Pulisic put his chip wide of the post when put through on the counter by Havertz.
Despite that miss, Chelsea stayed strong and would not break.
CHELSEA WIN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Carefree.
- No surprises from Tuchel, as the back three restored with Azpi, James at wing-back, and Havertz leading the line. Jorginho with the nod over Kovačić.
- Forced into early sub after Thiago Silva injured his groin on the half-hour. Christensen on to deputize as he had during Silva’s previous injury.
- Pulisic on as fresh legs for Werner for the final quarter of the match. Kovacic on for Mount, who had dropped deep into midfield by then for the final 10-15.
- Havertz’s first ever goal in the Champions League in a dozen tries.
- CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE!!!!
