Andreas Christensen latest Chelsea defender to be heading to Euro 2020

The vast majority of Champions League finalists Chelsea’s squad are heading to the European Championships this summer following the conclusion of the season, including almost all of our defenders.

With Andreas Christensen (and also Anders Christiansen of Malmo, just to confuse their enemies) today confirmed as one of the final 26 for Denmark, only Marcos Alonso and Emerson are set to miss out — and perhaps Reece James or Ben Chilwell, should they not make the final cut from the provisional squad for England. (And obviously Thiago Silva, but until the continents drift together again, that will always be the case. Then again, at the rate he’s going, Silva could yet still be playing billions of years from now. Anyway...)

Christensen had hardly featured this season until Thomas Tuchel took over and we needed someone to step in for Thiago Silva at the heart of the defense while he battled an injury. Christensen did so well that even after Silva came back, he remained part of the starting lineup, until an injury of his own sidelined him for a bit. Still, it’s been an excellent season in the end for the 25-year-old, who may look to extend his contract, even, at Chelsea when it looked like he could be headed for the exit door.

But first, the Euros!
