The 2020-21 season was very good to German club Wolfsburg, who managed to find a Champions League berth via Bundesliga by finishing the competition in the top four. Their return five years after the last time they were at Europe’s biggest stage is in no small part a result of the good work put by players such as Maxence Lacroix, the young French defender whose performances have put him in the crosshairs of Chelsea.
Before his move to Wolfsburg, Lacroix was a player for Sochaux in France’s second tier league. The fast rise to success, as he has witness, can often cloud your vision and make you lose sight of the hard work that was needed to put you where you are in life in the current moment. But it seems that is not the case with the 21-year-old, who feels ‘very happy’ with life among Die Wölfe.
“I see [the rumours], but I leave those matters to my agent because I want to concentrate on my work here at Wolfsburg, and I want to do a good job here. I’m with VfL and qualified for [next season’s] Champions League with the club. I’m very happy here.”
This does not mean things can change quickly for Lacroix in his career, as he already had a taste of these swift changes in life when he was called to join Wolfsburg a year ago. But for now, he wants to concentrate on doing the do on the pitch, and leave everything else at the hands of the people who know how to handle off the pitch matters such as transfers and whatnot.
“I still have a three-year contract here and I am very satisfied. Sure, things can always happen quickly in football, but again: I feel very comfortable at VfL and there is absolutely no reason to think about other things.”

While Lacroix might feel more comfortable with getting more experience under his belt at Wolfsburg before making the big jump to one of the biggest clubs in the world in his own opinion, it would not be a surprise if he does little thinking on doing such a transition if the opportunity arises.
As it often happens in the life of “commons”, big opportunities do not arrive at a regular basis. And missing them out is not the best course of action.
