Reports continue to filter in regularly about an upcoming contract extension for Thomas Tuchel — richly deserved after the stellar start to his Chelsea tenure — and the latest of those comes from the Daily Mail, who claim that the head coach is set for a new two-year contract with a built-in option for a third year as well.
Tuchel signed just an 18-month deal in January, making him a pseudo-interim appointment to replace Frank Lampard, and while that contract does have some performance-based incentives and clauses built-in, the club apparently want to rip all that up and sign him to a proper contract, and with an increase to his £7m annual salary as well.
Tuchel has been quite pragmatic whenever he’s talked about both his current situation and a potential extension, so it’s unlikely that anything will be officially signed until after the season. But surely, this is just a formality at this point, given the job he’s done — and especially if he leads us to a couple trophies in addition to a top-four finish in the next three weeks!
In further good news, N’Golo Kanté has been added to the list of players rumored to be in line for contract extensions as he enters the final two years of his contract. Kanté did however turn 30 a few weeks ago, so Chelsea would have to break our usual one-year-only rule about contract extensions for players over that age. Surely for Kanté we can make an exception!
Thiago Silva will stay at Chelsea - he wants to continue at #CFC, last details to be discussed... then his contract-extension clause until June 2022 will be triggered in the next weeks.
