Michy Batshuayi has not had a great season on loan at Crystal Palace, far from it actually, but on Monday, he scored a big goal for the Eagles that could have even bigger repercussions in the top-four race for Chelsea.
Palace themselves are well settled in midtable, equidistant from the top-four and the bottom-three, with nothing tangible left to fight for in the next two months. And yet, they still managed to fight back and score a late equalizer against Everton at Goodison Park last night, with Batshuayi coming on as a sub just a couple minutes prior and keeping up his goalscoring form from the international break.
Batshuayi may have never lived to his initial promise, but when faced with a goal-scoring situation, he still knows how to deliver the goods more often than not.
With Everton dropping points yesterday and Spurs dropping points on Sunday in their draw against Newcastle United, Chelsea were almost able to hang on to fourth despite our hilarious 5-2 collapse against West Brom on Saturday — what else can you do but laugh at the absurdity of that result?
Unfortunately, West Ham beat Wolves, 3-2 in the late game on Monday, almost blowing another 3-0 lead like before the international break, but this time managing to hang on to all three points. And that points David Moyes’ Hammers back in fourth, a point ahead of us in fifth. Spurs and Liverpool are both two points behind us while Everton are a further two from there, albeit still with one match-in-hand.
It’s going to be a tight one for that final Champions League spot!
