1. MASON MOUNT (7.9)
At age 22, one shy of his 100th Chelsea appearance — and what a time to make it, against Real Madrid tomorrow! — Mason Mount has already fulfilled the prophecy that was written when he was just 6 years old and first joining the Chelsea Academy setup.
And he’s only just getting started, and by extension, so are we.
2. TIMO WERNER (7.5)
Speaking of just getting started, one can only hope that Timo Werner’s ultimately underwhelming first season at Chelsea is only the first of many, much more fruitful seasons ahead. He may lead the team in “goal contributions” (goals+assists), but it’s hard to shake the feeling that there should’ve been much more.
But it’s also easy to forget that like so many in the team, especially in attack, he’s still quite young, having just recently turned 25.
3. THIAGO SILVA (7.4)
While no one’s forgetting Thiago Silva’s age anytime soon, he’s doing his absolute best to turn back the clock. He’s not the fastest, he’s not the strongest, but he seems to always be in the right place at the right time, and makes those around him better as well. We can only hope all the younger players, and especially the center backs, are paying very close attention.
