After Saturday’s momentous victory in the FA Cup semifinal over Manchester City, Thomas Tuchel has now won 13 of the 19 games he’s been in charge of Chelsea, losing just 2.
That’s a pretty good record any way you slice it, especially when you consider our defensive solidity and our progress in the knockout competitions, and the fact that Tuchel arrived mid-season and had to take charge of his first match barely 24 hours after landing in London. The transformation he’s engineered in the brief time since, with hardly any time for just training, has been remarkable.
It’s also been notable that Tuchel signed only an 18-month contract, making him somewhat of an interim appointment. Given his start however, it would only make sense to extend that arrangement. He would certainly be open to it.
“If I deserve to stay I am super happy to stay and I will try to stay as long as possible. I feel a part of the Chelsea family.
“The club is super professional, we have unbelievable quality of support, amount of support and we have a team which is pleasure to be on the sideline with. It is a pleasure to fight with this team. So I don’t care what it says on my contract, I need to deserve to stay longer. If I deserve to stay longer, then I will stay longer.
“This is what I demand from myself. I feel free at the moment, I feel good — I’m in the right place at the right moment. Everything will fall into place when it is there and if I want to stay longer I need to deliver week in, week out.”

As Tuchel elucidated before, even a long-term contract wouldn’t necessarily be a guarantee of job security. Only winning and hitting our performance targets can do that.
So far so good in that regard.
