Davide Zappacosta has enjoyed a fruitful season on loan at Genoa, making 15 appearances so far, scoring two goals and providing one assist. His latest goal came against Sampdoria in mid-week, helping his side to a 1-1 derby draw.
It was actually an amazing solo goal by the Italy international, as he burst through on the left wing, before cutting insidea and getting past a defender with a bit of Ronaldinho-esque trickery, and taking the shot from just inside the area.
It’s good to see Zappacosta making a positive impact after his ACL tear last season. With his contract expiring in 2022, he’ll look to make a permanent move at the end of the season.
In League Two, on-loan goalkeeper Jamie Cumming used his distribution skills to provide an assist to Elliott List. The move started from an opposition throw-in, which Cumming calmly collected in the box and quickly volleyed it forward to the striker. Elliott then took a great first-touch to beat the last defender, before rounding the goalkeeper, and scoring from a tight angle.

Glorious stuff!
Cumming’s assist would end up deciding the match, with Stevenage going on to win against Harrogate Town, 1-0.

Over in Turkey, Danny Drinkwater made his long-awaited return to first-team football a last week, playing the last half hour of Kasimpasa’s loss against Göztepe, then made his first start a few days ago, right the day before his 31st birthday. Kasimpasa lost that one, too, but for Drinkwater, it was his first start in just over a year, since Aston Villa lost to Spurs back in February 2020.
The midfielder’s contract with Chelsea runs through 2022, so this may be the last serious opportunity for him to show off his skills and maybe earn a permanent move somewhere closer to home.
