Michy Batshuayi has managed just 1 goal in 18 appearances (873 minutes) across all competitions this season for Crystal Palace in what’s been a very disappointing loan for the likable Chelsea striker.
On Tuesday, he managed 1 goal in his first appearance for Belgium since last November, when he scored a brace against Switzerland. In fact, Michy has scored in his last four appearances for Belgium, and in 14 of his last 24. He may not be doing much at club level, but when called upon by the Red Devils, he delivers the goods.
Of course, some of that has to do with the quality of the opposition. To wit, Belgium put up an eight-spot on Belarus yesterday. Eight!
Though Michy’s goal was still a bit of a banger.
Elsewhere, both Ethan Ampadu and Mateo Kovačić were on the winning ends of their games, with Wales beating the Czech Republic, 1-0, and Croatia taking care of Malta, 3-0.
The only concern is that Kovačić played the full game for Croatia, and given the other injury concerns in the midfield at the moment — Kanté out with a hamstring, Jorginho dealing with a knee knock, and Mason Mount also not fully healthy — those are some unwelcome minutes ahead of what will be a key stretch of the season for Chelsea.
