Chelsea as well as AC Milan were the other major contenders for Simakan’s signing, but RB Leipzig were always the favorites in the race, with the 20-year-old now expected to fill the boots of Bayern Munich-bound Dayot Upamecano.
The France U20 international, who is currently out of action with a knee injury, has been snapped up by Leipzig for around €15m. Simakan’s move will set off a chain reaction now, with AC Milan more likely than ever to sign Fikayo Tomori, with Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sempre Milan) claiming that the Rossoneri will sign Big Fik no matter what.
Of course, Milan will try to negotiate with Chelsea to bring his €28m price down, but if that’s not possible, the Serie A side will sign him outright since they know that his true valuation is even greater than that. From Chelsea’s perspective, the loss of Tomori to a fellow Champions League side will be a big blow, but we all knew that even before we agreed to send him out on loan to Italy.
You've elected @fikayotomori_ the @emirates MVP for #FiorentinaMilan for his stalwart performance
