After securing our advance to the Champions League quarterfinal by beating La Liga leaders Atlético Madrid at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will open up their home again to host Sheffield United in the FA Cup this Sunday. A win here will take the Blues to the semifinal stage, and thus much closer to domestic glory this season.
The 2-0 win against Atlético has extended manager Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten streak since taking over the club to 13 matches, and he will be eager to extend it a game further before the March international break that comes right after this quarterfinal encounter. Meanwhile the Blades are not in the best of states at the moment, coming from a 5-0 loss to Leicester in the Premier League last weekend.
Nevertheless we should not let our guards down, as previous upsets against this very Sheffield United team have already shown. More than keeping Tuchel’s record up, it would be proper to bring the FA Cup back home after three seasons since we last lifted the trophy.
According to Tuchel, defender Thiago Silva remains out of contention due to a thigh problem. Striker Tammy Abraham is doubtful after twisting his ankle in training, even though the head coach is optimistic about his chances to at least be available this Sunday.
