Of the eight goals nominated for January’s Premier League Goal of the Month, three came on the final day of the month. And of those three, one was the technically perfect volley from a certain Marcos Alonso, who was making his first appearance after spending over four months locked in a Cobham basement. Welcome back, Marcos!
If you need a refresher, or just a rewatch because this volley has yet to get old, here’s a Bud for you:

Which of these 8️⃣ is your @premierleague Goal of the Month for January?#BeAKing pic.twitter.com/oGWW8Ma6Xv
Alonso certainly has some tough competition for the award this month, which features more than just the usual array of powerful long-range bombs. There’s even a team goal, would you believe it, from Arsenal, featuring some lovely one-touch passing. Plus there’s Eze dribbling form the halfway line, Ndombele pulling a rabbit out of a hat, and Salah being way too cool. Former Chelsea man Patrick Bamford-inho gets in the act as well, alongside a Hojbjerg bomb and a Tierney effort that certainly would look more impressive any other month.
It’s not quite the collection of nominees from December 2006 (yes, featuring that Essien goal, and that Drogba goal, and a lot more), but it might be up there.
Anyway, go vote!
