Bayern Munich were always the frontrunners for RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano signature, with the Bundesliga club publicly making their interest in the centre-back known as well. And following reports from RMC Sport and L’Equipe, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić confirmed to Bild (via Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano) that the Frenchman decided to join the German giants in the summer.

Chelsea and Liverpool were two of the other clubs involved in the race for the France international’s signature, with the Blues reportedly making him their primary target for reinforcing our backline. Manager Thomas Tuchel was said to be particularly interested in the 22-year old, but will now need to look elsewhere.

The agreement over the contract duration has not been reached yet, but a contractual agreement has been found, with Bayern ready to pay his €42.5m release clause; and the player happy to join them. Leipzig are expected to sign Mohamed Simakan from Strasbourg as the replacement, with Strasbourg president Marc Keller also confirming ongoing talks.

After losing out on Upamecano, Chelsea, Liverpool and also Manchester United will reportedly vie for Ibrahima Konate, a fellow countryman and teammate of the soon-to-be Bayern player. Therefore he could be the one to keep an eye on as we head towards the summer transfer window with each passing day.
