Ahead of tonight’s FA Cup match at Oakwell between Barnsley and Chelsea, the last match of the fifth round, the draw for the next round, the quarterfinals has already been held.
So now we know that should we defeat the Championship side, we would go on to face Sheffield United at home in the quarterfinals in a little over a month’s time. That’s quite a favorable draw against the bottom team in the Premier League, whom we just beat last weekend.
The quarterfinal round currently scheduled for the weekend of March 20. Chelsea do have a Premier League fixture set for that weekend, away at Anfield against Liverpool, which would thus have to be postponed should be win tonight. Given the way things are going in the league, that might be a massive game with major top-four implications. Postponing it to a later, less hectic part of the schedule might be beneficial for us, though Liverpool might be in better form by then, too.
In any case, first things first, beat Barnsley.
The draw for the FA Cup quarterfinal round in full, as drawn by former Chelsea player and FA Women’s Cup-winner Karen Carney, is as follows:
Everton vs. Manchester City
AFC Bournemouth vs. Southampton
Leicester City vs. Manchester United
Barsnley OR Chelsea vs. Sheffield United
