Ben Chilwell, Thomas Tuchel nominated for Premier League monthly awards

Well deserved!

Chelsea went undefeated in the month of October — and not just in the Premier League, but in all three competitions — and while it wasn’t exactly the toughest six-match slate ever seen, you can only beat what’s in front of you, as they say. Six from six, one via a penalty shootout.

In the Premier League specifically, wins against Southampton, Brentford, Norwich City, and Newcastle United, by a combined scoreline of 14-1 (though none worthy of Goal of the Month nomination) were certainly more than enough to earn Thomas Tuchel yet another Manager of the Month nomination — his fourth since his arrival, and second this season.

That said, it might be a close call as Tuchel’s up against unbeaten (though not perfect) duo Jürgen Klopp (two wins, two draws — with a much tougher schedule) and Patrick Vieira (Palace drawing three of their four, winning one), as well as David Moyes who continues to achieve good things at West Ham United.

Key to Tuchel’s winning efforts have been the goals of Ben Chilwell, so much so that the left (but occasionally right) wing-back has earned a nomination for Player of the Month as well.

He’s also up against some very strong competition, though only Mo Salah, with five goals to his name this month, can claim to have scored more than Chilwell’s three. Other nominees include former Chelsea prospects Valentino Livramento and Declan Rice, plus Phil Foden, Youri Tielemans, Aaron Ramsdale, and Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet, whom we’ll face this weekend.
