Chelsea to face Brentford in League Cup quarterfinals

West London rematch

After rarely meeting Brentford in the past half-century, we now get to play the Bees twice in just a couple months after getting drawn against them in the League Cup quarterfinals. The draw was held earlier today on Soccer AM just to confuse everyone who might have thought we’d do it after the last match of the previous round was played on Wednesday.

In any case, it’s Bees versus Blues for the second time this year — and only for the fifth time since 1947. Our Premier League match there a couple weeks ago was one of the sternest tests of the season, with Brentford laying siege to our goal for the final 20 minutes of the match. We held out for the 1-0 win and all three points, but only just.

We can probably expect similar resistance when we play this game on either Tuesday the 21st or Wednesday the 22nd of December (exact to be determined soon).

The quarterfinal draw in full, is as follows:

Tottenham Hotspur vs. West Ham United
Arsenal vs. Sunderland
Brentford vs. CHELSEA
Liverpool vs. Leicester City
