Next up for Chelsea in the third match of this weeklong three-match homestand is a rematch against Southampton in the fourth round of the League Cup. The Blues beat Saints, 3-1, just before the international break at the start of this month.

As usual for the League Cup, both sides are expected to rotate and give the backups and fringe players a chance to impress. For Chelsea however there is not much chance to rotate players up front at the moment, with Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, and Christian Pulisic all dealing with various injuries. It’s still unclear when any of them might actually be back (weeks? months?), but it won’t be tomorrow.

In better news, N’Golo Kanté’s absence over the weekend has been explained to be simply a maintenance day for the 30-year-old, and he should be available to play.

While we shouldn’t expect another 7-0, Chelsea will be clear favorites for this match as well, so we mustn’t be taking anything for granted.

Choose wisely.
