Chelsea fans’ preferred lineup against Brentford: Werner, Lukaku, and Mount up front!

Brentford vs. Chelsea, Premier League: Preferred lineup

It’s back to business for Chelsea as we take a short trip to promoted side Brentford down the road. Thomas Frank and his men have already ground out some impressive results this season and despite some notable absentees, Chelsea will need to take all three points back to Stamford Bridge.

THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE

The WAGNH community continue to stick by the 3-4-3, well ahead of the 3-5-2 (22%) and any other formations (all below 3%). There are also no surprises between the sticks as Édouard Mendy keeps Kepa Arrizabalaga (6%) on the bench.

It was an extremely close call between Callum Hudson-Odoi (40%) and Reece James for right wing-back, but the latter just about edges it after making an appearance in training back from injury and declared fit for the game. Ben Chilwell is preferred to Marcos Alonso (26%) on the other side. With Antonio Rüdiger and Thiago Silva both ruled out of the tie, Andreas Christensen, Trevoh Chalobah and César Azpilicueta start in the back-three.

Despite his recent resurgence, Ruben Loftus-Cheek (54%) only gets enough votes for the bench, behind the duo of Jorginho and Mateo Kovačić. The uncertainty regarding the fitness of N’Golo Kanté (25%) sees him miss out as well, while there’s much less doubt where the community rate Saúl Ñíguez (3%) and Ross Barkley (4%).

Timo Werner has had a successful few weeks and is rewarded with a start for his recent good form. He joins a deemed-fit Romelu Lukaku, as Mason Mount completes the attacking trio. Kai Havertz (47%) doesn’t quite make the cut, while both Hakim Ziyech (12%) and Christian Pulisic miss out due to injuries.

3-4-3 (71%)
Mendy (94%) | Chalobah (90%), Christensen (98%), Azpilicueta (95%) | Chilwell (77%), Jorginho (60%), Kovačić (66%), James (41%) | Werner (86%), Lukaku (65%), Mount (83%)

MY PREFERRED CHOICE

Given who’s currently available, the back five pretty much picks itself, so I can only concur with the community’s choices in defense; the same goes for midfield. While I would really like to see Loftus-Cheek get a start I can understand playing it safe and bringing him on early on in the second half. Kanté just returned from COVID and should be eased back in.

Essentially, this eleven seems like our best bet to win. While this could be the perfect game for Hudson-Odoi to start, leaving Mount out of the side seems impossible and Werner’s been on fire lately. Not an easy decision to make, that’s for sure.

COME ON, YOU BLUES!!!

3-4-3
Mendy | Chalobah, Christensen, Azpilicueta | Chilwell, Jorginho, Kovačić, James | Werner, Lukaku, Mount
