Denmark became the second nation to secure qualification for the 2022 World Cup, joining host nation Qatar, and hopefuls Germany, who qualified yesterday thanks in part to Timo Werner’s brace.

Andreas Christensen made his 12th consecutive international start, and helped keep yet another clean sheet in tonight’s 1-0 win over Austria that confirmed Denmark’s place in the tournament next summer winter. Denmark have yet to concede a goal in their qualifying campaign (8 matches).

There was also good news for Scotland, who eked out a 1-0 win over the Faroe Islands with a late goal. Billy Gilmour, who continues to earn plenty of plaudits for his international showings, played all but the final few minutes. Meanwhile, Edouard Mendy helped Senegal to another 3-1 win over Namibia, their second in just as many matches.

There were less savory scenes in Albania, where the match was briefly suspended after the crowd started throwing objects at the visiting Poland players. Chelsea loanee Armando Broja played the final half-hour, but failed to find the back of the net in the 1-0 defeat.

The win closes the gap for Poland to England at the top of Group I, after the Three Lions had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Hungary at Wembley. Mason Mount started and played the full game. Tammy Abraham came on for Harry Kane for the final 15 minutes, but was forced off with an unfortunate injury before the final whistle. Hopefully it’s not too serious.

The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot (Luke Shaw giving it away with a dangerous high boot) before John Stones equalized on a set piece not long before half-time. But England were unable to find a winner in the second half, while more unsavory scenes played out in the away section. Shameful actions and behaviors from the Hungarian hooligans once again.

International breaks are the worst.
