LIVE BLOG

FULL TIME: Chelsea win!

90+4min: Burnely with a late corner, but Tarkowski heads over.

90+1min: Havertz gets Chelsea moving forward, playing wide to Pulisic. He tries to pick out Werner at the far post, but the outside of the boot cross is a bit strong.

90min: Switch to James, who looks to pick out Kovacic at the top of the box. But Burnley are back in numbers and clear. 4 minutes added on.

87min: Mumbongo, miles offside, but play is allowed to continue despite the obviousness of it all. His shot hits the post and goes wide anyway. And then the flag goes up!

84min: ALONSO GOOOOAALLL!!! And what a goal it is. Pulisic on the left, plays infield to Alonso on the underlap. He juggles the ball twice and then absolutely rockets it into the roof of the net on the half-volley. Wow. 2-0, CHELSEA!

83min: Havertz smuggles a ball in from the left, which Pulisic gets a foot to at the near post, but Pope’s well positioned to grab it.

81min: Havertz looks for Werner with a through ball, but Meet slides in and makes the crucial interception.

80min: Mount replaced by Havertz for Chelsea’s last change.

79min: James tries to pick out a runner at the far post. Burnley clear.

76min: Kovacic tries his luck from distance, well over the bar. Mumbongo on for his Burnley debut.

74min: James straight into the action, first crossing low, which Chelsea can’t quite turn goalwards, then going for goal himself and forcing a nice stop from Pope.

73min: James on for Hudson-Odoi, at wing-back.

71min: Mount to Hudson-Odoi, who gets his head up and finds Pulisic arriving at the penalty spot. His effort however goes inches wide of the far post.

69min: Mount goes for goal from 25 and doesn’t miss by much.

68min: Silva with an important block, then Mount holds the ball well to get Chelsea moving forward through Kovacic. But the pace of the attack slows down, and Chelsea opt to settle for a bit of possession. After dozens of passes, Mount plays CHO in, and his low ball across the six-yard box is almost deflected into his own net by Ben Mee.

66min: Kovacic switches to Hudson-Odoi, who tries to find Pulisic arriving at the far post, but can’t quite get it over the Burnley defender’s head.

64min: Chelsea pass it around at the back for a bit, then Kovacic looks long for Hudson-Odoi. It’s slightly overhit however and Pope lets it run out for a goal kick.

62min: Gudmondsson on for Wood, who seemed to have done his hamstring.

60min: Westwood in the book for Burnley for hacking down Mount. At the same time, Wood down with an injury for the visitors.

58min: Mount switching to Hudson-Odoi, he takes on Pieters then takes a shot, which deflects off the defender ... and onto the post and out! Unlucky.

57min: Burnley corner and change, as Jay Rodriguez on for the invisible Vydra. In comes the corner, but it’s quite poor and it bounces out for a goal kick.

54min: Pulisic’s played in again, but his cutback hits a trailing leg. Mount wins the ball back and Chelsea play it around before Rudiger tries his luck from 30 yards. It’s a powerful effort, but wide of the far post.

52min: Hudson-Odoi latest ball in finds Werner. He powers a header towards goal, but Pope’s a big man and he steps across to catch it.

51min: Rudiger looks for Hudson-Odoi, but this time the switch is a little too close to the area and the goalkeeper ventures out some ways to collect.

50min: Azpilicueta appeals for a handball as his cross is blocked, but VAR rules it inadvertent. Chelsea create a bit of a scramble from the corner, but can’t quite make it count and Burnley eventually get a goal kick.

49min: Werner drives towards the byline, but his cross is blocked for a corner. Mount takes, cleared.

48min: Jorginho feeds Mount, who turns excellently again and plays wide to Alonso. He looks for Werner low, but Burnley clear for a corner. Alonso takes, outswinging, but cleared at the near post.

46min: Pulisic straight into the action, tries to pick out Alonso arriving with the second run, but Werner deflects the pass probably not intended for him and the chance is gone.

SECOND HALF: One change at the half for Chelsea, with Pulisic replacing Abraham and Werner presumably shifting to play more central.

HALF-TIME: Chelsea have ended over two hours scoreless under Tuchel, and have controlled the play quite well, though not quite as well as against Wolves. Next goal wins this.

45+1min: Burnley have a late free kick, but Alonso and Azpilicueta combine to get it clear.

44min: Mount tries a 1-2 with Werner, but the return ball is too strong. Chelsea pushing for a second before half.

40min: AZPIIIIIIILIGOOOAL!!! Alonso and Jorginho combine well to play out on the left, with the latter finding Mount in the middle. He turns well and gets Chelsea moving, playing wide to Hudson-Odoi. He cuts infield, then lays it wide to Azpilicueta at the end of a long-busting overlap. And he powers a first-time side-footed effort into the top corner. What a strike! 1-0, CHELSEA!

37min: Chelsea probe on the right, then turn back and go left, where it’s all a bit narrow. Werner tries his luck from 20 yards, but Pope easily gathers the low, weak effort.

34min: Kovacic drives through midfield, looking for Werner with a through ball. Burnley intercept but Mount wins the ball back. Alonso plays it in, where it’s dropped to Mount who goes for a first-time shot from the edge of the area, but gets it all wrong again, miles high and wide.

33min: Werner tries to take it past Tarkowski, but there is little conviction in the move and is easily defended by the England international.

32min: Azpilicueta hoists one in again, but Pope gobbles those up all day.

30min: Chelsea push this time on the left, with Werner driving to the byline and crossing in. The ball pinballs to Mount at the penalty spot, but he’s leaning back as he puts his shot miles over the bar.

29min: The switch goes to Hudson-Odoi again, in acres of space. He puts a great ball across towards the penalty spot where Werner’s arriving and ... he hits own standing foot with his side-footed effort. Still not happening for him.

26min: Kovacic again with the switch. CHO this time finds Mount, who lays it back to Jorginho, who puts in a first-time ball towards Alonso at the far post. He wins the header but the angle is tight and opts to put it back across. Abraham and Mount both go for it, and take each other out.

25min: Kovacic switches to Hudson-Odoi, who takes a touch and looks for Abraham, but he’s caught on his heels a bit and Burnley can clear.

23min: Burnley with a spell of pressure and possession, but Chelsea repelling the dangerous balls into the box with relative ease.

20min: Chelsea having a bit of trouble playing out, and Mendy’s square ball goes to McNeil. But Azpilicueta able to force him backwards to prevent any real danger.

19min: Tarkowski buys a free kick off Abraham, much to the Chelsea man’s chagrin. They get into a bit of posturing and pushing, and the referee calls them into his principal’s office for a bit of talking to. No cards.

17min: Werner drives to the byline against Lowton, but his left-footed cross curls out before coming back in.

16min: Kovacic with a ridiculous flick in midfield gets Chelsea going forward through Mount. He plays wide to CHO, who can’t find his shot and plays back to Mount. He does the same to Kovacic, who goes for a left-footed shot from the top of the box. Does not trouble the goalkeeper.

15min: Werner tries to pick out the far corner with a shot from the edge of the area. But the goalkeeper’s got the low shot well covered.

14min: Azpilicueta hangs a cross in. Silva still up from the corner, heads well over from the high looping ball.

13min: Mount takes the corner, Burnley clear but then commit a foul on Mount near the corner flag. He takes the free kick that’s basically a corner, but it’s headed clear in front of Abraham

12min: Kovacic with a great driving run, cutting across left to right. He slightly undersells the pass to an open Hudson-Odoi, and his shot is thus blocked after a cutback. Corner.

11min: Mount looks for Werner with a through ball, but Burnley have numbers back to intercept. Tarkowski launches a counter, which eventually needs a Silva sliding interception in the area to prevent from causing danger.

10min: Chelsea play out well on the right, with Hudson-Odoi then switching to Rudiger who has room to take. He strides forward, but telegraphs the pass to Alonso, which is intercepted and Burnley can counter into the space. Lowton’s switch is terrible however and we have the ball back with a throw on the far side.

7min: Chelsea build well on the left, Alonso combining with Kovacic, then giving it to Werner. He plays infield towards Mount, who turns well again at the top of the box but gets his shot all wrong, trying for that top corner.

5min: Another long ball from Burnley, this one finds Wood in the right channel, but his pass back infield is straight to Jorginho. Chelsea build quickly, but Hudson-Odoi’s cross is rather wayward this time.

4min: Burnley looking long early, but Silva intercepts. At the other end, Kovacic looks for Mount over the top, but it’s too long and the goalkeeper can collect.

2min: Mount turns nicely and runs at the defense, plays wide to Hudon-Odoi, but his return ball hits a heel and Burnley can clear.

1min: Early Burnley foray sees a high cross from Westwood. The aerial duel is inconclusive but Jorginho’s there to hook it clear.

KICK-OFF: The players are out, Chelsea in all blue with white socks, Burnley in a bit of claret and white. The players take a knee and we’re off.

Thomas Tuchel, take two.
