LIVE BLOG:
90+3min: FULL TIME. Chelsea win!
90+2min: Giroud tries to dribble through. Can’t quite do so but still gets his shot in. Goalkeeper saves.
90min: Hudson-Odoi looks to pick out he far corner, but can’t quite dial it in.
89min: Werner in the area, but ignores Giroud and the chance is gone. Werner clearly frustrated at the moment.
85min: Werner sent through by Kovacic, taken out by Clark in the area. No doubt about that one. Werner takes his own penalty, but the goalkeeper guesses right and makes a good save. Oopsies.
84min: Kovacic on for Mount. Kovacic gets the armband as well.
82min: Werner finds Giroud, who tries to pick out Mount at the far post, but can’t quite chip the ball over the goalkeeper.
81min: Luton have a corner; Chelsea clear. Luton keep up the pressure, but Zouma makes an important headed clearance.
77min: Hat-trick hero Tammy off for Giroud; Havertz on for Ziyech as well
76min: Luton try their luck from 25 yards. Wide.
74min: GOALLL!!! TAMMY! No mistake this time, as Tammy taps in from a yard after great play from Hudson-Odoi, playing a 1-2 with Gilmour and picking out Abraham in the middle. Hat-trick for Tammy! 3-1, CHELSEA!
72min: Hudson-Odoi beats his man and chips in from the left byline. Abraham towers high above his defender, but heads wide of the far post. That was a great chance.
71min: Hudson-Odoi on for Pulisic and straight into the action, as he’s found by a James cross. The first-touch is a bit cold however and the shot is blocked.
70min: James plays in to Werner, who’s making a cutting run inside out. He gets past a couple then gets dragged back and goes down a bit theatrically. The referee turns a blind eye.
66min: Chelsea have a 3-v-3 briefly, but Abraham gets his cross wrong and the ball drifts out for a goal kick.
63min: Luton make a couple changes and suddenly full of confidence, win a corner. Chelsea scramble it away, with Kepa making a decent initial stop.
60min: Luton counter after James mis-hits a clearance. Mpanzu finds Cornick and he’s in for a great chance, but Kepa pulls off a fantastic save with a strong left hand to preserve Chelsea’s lead.
58min: Chelsea keep up the pressure, but it’s very crowded in the area. Pulisic seems to get fouled, no call, and Ziyech’s powerful blast is blocked.
57min: Abraham can’t find space to shoot after a decent Emerson cross, but Mount picks up the loose ball and finds Pulisic. His poked effort is deflected just wide. Mount’s corner is cleared.
55min: Ziyech, now on the right, bamboozles a couple then lays it back to Mount arriving at the edge of the area. His powerful shot is over the bar however.
53min: Ziyech takes a corner short, gets it back from Mount, and puts a great ball in from the left across the six-yard box. Again no one there to finish, with Tammy and Timo arriving late at the far and near posts, respectively.
51min: Mount drives to the baseline and chips back, but his cross is deflected into the arms of the goalkeeper. At the other end, Kepa’s quick off his line to sweep up a long ball over the top.
49min: Great ball in from James after a backheel from Ziyech. Pulisic slides, but the goalkeeper makes a tremendous save to keep the ball out. Ziyech can’t quite find space to shoot from the rebound.
47min: Bit of a low quality starts to the half, with several misplaced passes from both sides.
SECOND HALF: After a slightly extended half-time break, the teams are back out at long last. Luton make one change, Potts on for Rea. The snow and sleet is back as well, falling a bit more heavily at the moment.
HALF-TIME: Comfortable first half for Chelsea, though less comfortable on the scoreboard thanks to the silly goal conceded. 2-1.
45+3min: Luton win a late free kick, wide left, level with the top of the area. Referee gives them time to take it, well past the 2 minues of added-on time. Dewsbury-Hall’s great delivery is flicked on by Cornick, but Kepa’s well positioned to catch it and hold on safely.
45+1min: Emerson crosses, Werner gets to it at the near post, but can only put it wide of the near post.
45min: Abraham plays wide to James, who checks back then finds Werner at the top of the box. He tries to take it past his man, but the defender stands tall and clear. Suggestions that the ball might have hit him on the arm, but the referees are unmoved.
44min: Werner looks for Abraham with a deep cross, but it’s just a bit too strong and the goalkeeper can collect.
43min: Pulisic wins a corner, which Mount takes, outswinging. Luton again clear at the near post. Mount wins the ball back on the right and puts in a much better ball, but no one gambles on the run into the six-yard box.
41min: Chelsea passing it around and through Luton with ease, but cannot quite create a shot in the area, with Ziyech passing up a weak-footed volley and playing to Mount but his shot getting blocked by a mass of bodies.
38min: A couple nice flicks from Mount and Abraham put Pulisic through, but Luton cover well for a corner. Ziyech takes, outswinging, but cleared at the near post.
35min: James combines on the right to put in a great low ball across the six-yard box, but Tammy can’t quite reach it at the near post and no one’s there at the far post to tap it in.
34min: Werner plays wide to Pulisic. This time he tries to pick out the top corner, but doesn’t quite get it to drop in time.
33min: Through ball from Gilmour to Werner almost comes off, but it runs through to the goalkeeper.
32min: Werner wins a corner, which Ziyech takes to Mount, who’s tackled ... by the referee? Drop ball to Chelsea, but the opportunity’s gone.
30min: Goal. Luton. Luton with a brief spell of possession, playing wide right. The cutback finds a wide open Clark, who takes a first-time shot that squirms past Kepa’s hand and foot. Oops. Lead cut in half, 2-1.
28min: Chelsea pass it around at the back for a while, before Gilmour switches play to James, who steps up and finds Werner at the top of the box. He dummies the pass brilliantly to a wide open Pulisic. He chooses near corner instead of the usual far post curler, but the goalkeeper’s not fooled and makes the save with his leg.
26min: Zouma seems okay to play on.
23min: Abraham plays wide to Pulisic, who drives into the area and puts a ball back across. Luton clear for a corner, which Ziyech takes. Luton clear at the near post, but a couple players stay down, including Zouma. Christensen finally puts the ball out so Zouma can get his right calf looked at.
20min: Luton win a corner as Emerson blocks a cross. They take it short, then swing it, finding a Luton head. But the effort is well over the bar.
17min: GOALLLL!!! TAMMMY again! Chelsea keep the pressure going, and make it count as James crosses in and Tammy heads it over the goalkeeper, who got himself stuck in no man’s land a bit. 2-0, CHELSEA!
16min: Ziyech looks for Pulisic with a familiar inside out cross. Luton clear, but Chelsea keep up the pressure...
15min: Emerson with a great tackle in a 1-v-1 matchup against the winger.
14min: Pulisic on the ball for the first time, but can’t quite get past his man in the area, wide right.
13min: Ziyech smuggles a ball through for Abraham, but his cutback only reaches the goalkeeper. Chelsea continuing to press.
11min: GOAAAALLLL!! TAMMY! Werner pops up in the right channel from a quick throw, driving to the baseline and cutting back to a wide open Abraham, who slots low into the far corner. 1-0, CHELSEA!
10min: Ball in from James finds Mount, but his shot is deflected over for a corner. Mount takes the corner, finding Zouma, but he can only head over the bar.
9min: Ball towards Abraham in the channel from Ziyech is fantastic, but the goalkeeper again comes out quickly and makes a fantastic sliding challenge at he corner of the area to prevent the opportunity.
8min: Naismith crosses for Luton, not well. Kepa catches. Chelsea again having a bit of trouble playing out.
6min: Mount wins the ball high up, passing wide left to Emerson. His ball in from deep is rather wayward and straight to the goalkeeper.
5min: Zouma sends a ball down the line for Werner to chase, he puts in a nice low cross, but no one’s there to tap it in and Luton can clear.
4min: Mpanzu bullies his way down the left; Christensen and Mount stop him. But passing at the back is poor, and Kepa plays Emerson into a bit of trouble. Emerson takes the safe option and concedes a throw, which Chelsea defend well and win a goal kick.
1min: Chelsea pass it around then go long down the right channel. Abraham chases; goalkeeper comes well out and clears.
KICK-OFF: Chelsea players wait in the tunnel as Luton are slow in leaving the temporary away dressing room in the health club. Here they come at last, in the snow and sleet. Luton in a fetching white shirts and orange shorts and socks combination. Chelsea in the usual all blue with white socks. The players take a knee, and then we’re off, Chelsea getting us under way.
Chelsea enter as heavy favorites against second division opposition in this FA Cup fourth round match, despite our recent poor form. Nothing less than a win will do, especially with head coach Frank Lampard under increasing pressure from all corners. He’s targeted the next three home games for engineering a turnaround; this is game one.
He will try to do so with a (Captain!) Mount — Gilmour double pivot, just as the people wanted!
Here we go, in the snow!
