Leicester City 2-0 Chelsea, Player Ratings: Not as terrible as expected!

Community player ratings from Chelsea’s listless defeat at the King Power

1. ÉDOUARD MENDY (6.1)

Overall, the ratings are not nearly as bad as feared; not even the worst of this season so far! They’re not great, obviously, but not as terrible as they could’ve been.

As is so often the case in defeat and otherwise generally bad performances, it’s the goalkeeper who emerges atop the player ratings pile. It’s his fifth Man of the Match, which is most on the team. Alongside N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva, Mendy also leads the team with an overall 6.8 average rating.

Mendy couldn’t do much about either goal conceded — one was a wicked slice off the outside of the boot from Ndidi that kissed the inside of the post with Mendy’s view blocked; the other a cool finish from a wide open Maddison in a position that was always going to favor the shooter — but he did keep the score down with a series of excellent saves, none better than his strong hand on Vardy’s 1-v-1 chip.

2. MASON MOUNT (5.9)

Mount’s having a very good season, even if his raw production numbers are a bit down. Playing a bit deeper, as he has been in recent weeks, won’t help with those either — not that those should be defining his game. That said, a Mount-Kovačić double-pivot against a good team is probably not a great idea.

3. TIMO WERNER (5.3, sub)

Timo was on the pitch for not very long, and he wasn’t any better than the rest of the team, but he wasn’t any better than the rest of the team for less time than the rest of the team. He also produced a nice finish on a free kick to score, but was flagged offside and ruled out in rather emblematic fashion. But there’s a positive to take at least.
