Drinkwater made his last professional appearance almost a year ago, February 2020, while still on loan with Aston Villa for the 2019-20 season, and has been restricted to playing for the Blues’ Development Squad (U23) this season.

He will now hope to reinvigorate his career, before once again trying to find himself a more permanent situation for next season int the summer. Chelsea, where he still has 18 months left on his current contract, will reportedly subsidize the majority of his wages for the time being.
