COMEBACK KID

He’s waited nearly 1000 days to play a handful of minutes. And oh how sweet it must have felt, to see his number go up on the fourth official’s board, even if the clock read 87 and PSV would go on to lose 3-1 at home to AZ, falling behind Ajax in the title race.

Wulfert Cornelius “Marco” van Ginkel was back, baby!

“Personally, this is a highlight. I worked hard for it and it took a long time. Being back now feels like a reward. [...] I got a few minutes, that’s great.”

“[...] I worked hard for it and I am proud to be back. [...] In the end I stopped counting the days. They are not the most important either. I was only working on my recovery, hoping to be able to play football again. There was also a period when that chance was a lot smaller. I’ve been through a lot of emotional things. In the end I’m standing here, then a congratulation is appropriate, yes.”

Congratulations, indeed! Keep that fire burning.
