Chelsea’s next match, against Fulham at Craven Cottage has been pushed back a day as the Premier League scrambles to deal with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The two friendly neighbors were set to play Friday night, but will instead play on Saturday afternoon (5:30pm local time). This gives Chelsea one less day to prepare for the match against Leicester City the following Tuesday.
As annoying as that may be, it’s not nearly as bad as how the league’s treating Fulham, who now have an added game dropped into their schedule on short notice. The reason our game is being pushed back is because the Premier League decided to hold the previously postponed (on December 30) Spurs vs. Fulham match on Wednesday now. Fulham just finished playing 120 minutes on Saturday in the FA Cup, and now have Spurs to deal with before taking on Chelsea on Saturday. Ouch. They are “understood” to be “unhappy” about the situation, which one can certainly understand.
The situation is less drastic for Spurs, as they already had a midweek Premier League match scheduled, against Aston Villa. That game’s been postponed due to the outbreak at Villa, so Spurs will instead play their previously postponed Fulham match instead. Football in a pandemic!
(At least we don’t have to worry about ticketed fans being upset, ey?)
This week's fixture against Fulham has been rescheduled...
