Thiago Silva has had a week of actual training with Chelsea now, and while the weekend’s big clash against Liverpool came a bit too soon for him, there is a chance he will be ready to make his debut tomorrow, in the League Cup third round match against Barnsley.
Frank Lampard didn’t quite confirm this when asked about it after Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to the defending champions, but he certainly sounded more positive about it than the other newcomers’ chances of playing.
“Too soon probably in terms of fitness wise [for Chilwell and Ziyech].
“We’ll see with Thiago because Thiago’s not coming back off an injury, he’s just getting fit. The others it seems too soon, but they are not far away.”

Lampard and his eternally misplaced eternal optimism regarding injuries makes it hard to judge just how close any of these players may be or just how real their chances of playing may be, but Silva is certainly ahead of the rest precisely because he’s just looking for match fitness. The game against second division Barnsley could be just the ticket to get those legs properly moving once again.
