Chelsea have made several acquisitions this summer, and we certainly hope we can put them to use as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, three of those five new signings are not yet fit to play. In addition, wonderkid winger Christian Pulisic is still not recovered from his hamstring injury either. Both Hakim Ziyech (knee) and Ben Chilwell (heel) remain out, while Thiago Silva is not match-fit having just started training with the team after taking a few weeks off following Paris Saint-Germain’s participation in the Champions League final.
“Ben Chilwell is not ready for the game, and Christian Pulisic is not ready for the game. We hope they’re training and progressing over the next week or so. Hakim Ziyech is also not ready for the game, same story.”
“Thiago has been training with us for the last three or four days. We are just working with him on his fitness at the moment, so Liverpool will come too soon for him.”
Sounds like Silva should be available soon, which is certainly good news. The sooner we have a quality player and leader like him on the pitch, the better, even if he is still just learning to communicate in English like the rest of the squad.
“Thiago is certainly a leader. He brings that with him by nature. He doesn’t speak the language that great, something we’re working on very quickly, but we have a lot of players in the squad who are multi-lingual and help with that.
“By presence, by attitude in training, by the quality of the player he commands respect. I look forward to having him around. He already seems very engaging and intent on helping the team, and that’s all you can ask for as a coach.”
The one good bit of news today is that striker Timo Werner, who suffered a dead leg during his Premier League debut against Brighton, is available to play just like he said he would be.
“Timo Werner is fit.”

No time like the present for that first goal, Timo!
