Official: Lewis Baker joins Trabzonspor on loan from Chelsea

Overseas, again

Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker already has plenty of experience moving and playing abroad, with two of his seven loans taking him to the Netherlands with Vitesse (for two years) and then to Germany with Fortuna Düsseldorf last term.

This year, the 25-year-old, who has two years left on his Chelsea contract, will be overseas once again as he joins Turkish side Trabzonspor for a season-long loan.

Baker will be under the guidance of former Chelsea midfielder and coach Eddie Newton, who arrived at Trabzonspor last season as assistant to Hüseyin Cimsir. He then took the managerial job over as a caretaker, and became the non-interim boss after winning the Turkish Cup while finishing only four points behind the Süper Lig winners, Istanbul Basaksehir.

Baker will likely be hoping that this loan goes better than his spell at Fortuna Düsseldorf. There is still time to live up to the great potential that was once heralded for the Academy midfielder.

Best of luck, Lewis!
