Chelsea have officially announced the signing of centre back Malang Sarr, a top talent who became a free agent this summer after his contract ended at Nice.
Sarr will however immediately be added to the Blues’ Loan Army for the upcoming season — destination unknown as yet — though the club were intent on making it clear that we will look to have him back very soon.
Welcome to Chelsea, Malang Sarr! ✍️

“The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss. He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea. We are very happy to welcome him to the club today.”

Having featured in over 100 Ligue 1 games at the tender age of just 21, Sarr has a lot of experience at the top level already. An France U21 international, he has been lauded as one of Les Bleus’ most exciting talents, profiting from his versatility as a centre back and also being able to deputize as left back.
Malang Sarr an exceptional signing for Chelsea - a victim of Vieira's regime & Dante, who hurt gifted leader Sarr's confidence by playing him at left-back & robbing him of crucial progression at left CB. Has the potential to become France's best left sided central defender.

Despite Chelsea’s problems in defense, and possibly due to Sarr having had a relatively difficult 2019-20 season, it makes sense that the club would immediately look to loan him out to help him build up confidence. The Bundesliga has been touted as a possible destination: maybe he’ll be a possible sweetener for Bayer Leverkusen?
In any case, welcome to the greatest club in the world, Malang! Let’s win some things (eventually)!
