Welcome to yet another season of WaFFLe - WAGNH's own draft fantasy football league. What started as a 12 team league is now into its seventh season. Last year, we had 96 teams and 8 divisions in a four level football pyramid!
For those who do not know, WaFFLe is a head-to-head fantasy draft league. Teams are unique within divisions - only one of you can own a certain player within your division. Draft format used is snake draft : Team that picks last in a round gets to pick first next round.
WaFFLe scoring format uses a lot of scoring stats that you don’t see in regular FPL. For instance, every key pass one of your players makes will get you 2 points in a matchweek. Tackles get 1 point etc. You can find more information about scoring in your Fantrax league’s summary page.
Waiver System: Auction based waiver system provided by Fantrax. Newly added players and players who are dropped will be put into waiver wire (Free players also get put into waiver wire when their games start each gameweek). The manager making the highest bid wins the claim for a waiver-tied player. If two bids are same, a tie-breaker order decides who gets the player. The tie-breaker order is initially set as inverse of the draft order. When a tie is broken, the team winning the claim gets added to the bottom of the tiebreaker order, and everyone else moves up. Tie-breakers are invoked only if two competing bids are equal.
Changes to waiver system this year: Last year, teams had a "fantasy football budget" of 60 to bid on players. This year, fantasy budget of 60 is split into two installments. Initially everyone starts with a budget of 30. The second installment of 30 gets added to everyone’s budget after the end of summer transfer (within a week or so, after the summer transfer deadline of Oct 5th).
You can choose to save your first installment or spend a portion of it (or all of it). The second installment of 30 will be added to whatever is left after October 5.
Note: There WON’T be any extra budget allotted after the winter transfer window.
Note that you can bid any number between 0 to 60 (including 0 and 60) for a player. Only fractions in steps of 0.5 are allowed.
How to Join?
Mail me the following details before sign up deadline. Check my profile page for my mail info. Please make sure you are sending the sign up mails to the email address in my profile and not the old one.
- Your WAGNH username
- Whether you played WaFFLe last year. If so, your team name and division.
- What team name you would like this year (and a team abbreviation, between 1-7 characters ). Team names will be locked until the start of season.
- Your email that you would like to register with fantrax. You'll be sent your league invitation to this mail. You'll also be added into a mailing group with others from your 12-team division. So expect some mails.
On the subject line: If you are a returning user, use subject line "WaFFLe return". If you are a new user, use subject line "WaFFLe new user"
Deadline for sign up: 20th August, 11:59 pm Pacific Time
If you are a returning user, you’ll get a fantrax invitation to join the league within a couple of days after you send me a mail. New users will have to wait for a few more days. Since each division has to be exactly 12 teams, some of the new users will be on a waiting list. Once the divisions are created, I’ll create another Fan Post here. You can see whether you got in.
I’ll also add you to a group mail with everyone in your division. You will talk with others in your division to decide on a draft time convenient for everyone. Try to pick a time slot that works for everyone. The league is most enjoyable when everyone is active. Managers who end up on auto-draft tend to lose interest sooner than most.
Last year, we faced some issues with live drafting in fantrax (for leagues with multiple divisions). So, after everyone joins, I’ll duplicate your division into a separate league, which will be named "Draft room_division number". There will be only 12 teams in this new league and it will be used just for the drafting purpose. Once the draft is complete, your team and your draft picks will be copied back to main league "WaFFLe 2020/21", and the Draft room league will be deleted. During this process you might receive multiple mail notifications from fantrax about league creation and deletion. Don’t worry about that.
Draft date: Draft date and time is decided by the 12 members of your division. But it is expected that all divisions will complete their drafts on or before September 6, Sunday. This is very important, as it will take a few days for me to manually copy each and every one of your draft picks back to main league. Having all the teams in a single league (multi-division format) will make it easier for cup/champions league. WiZaCar17 has volunteered to do it this year.
Weekends are usually a popular draft date choice and the Community Shield weekend is an especially popular choice. Keep that in mind when you make your plans. Drafts can take a few hours to complete.
Before you sign up, realize that it will take some of your time every week to set up lineups, to check team sheets etc. WaFFLe doesn’t have auto subs. Instead, you can change lineups during gameweek. A player in your eleven/bench gets locked one minute before kickoff time for his respective premier league game. So more active managers tend to do better.
