Chelsea had been on a five-match winning streak before Wednesday night, including three in a row in the league, and because of that, Frank Lampard earned himself a nomination for Premier League Manager of the Month for June — which also includes results from the month of March, which was truncated when the pandemic hit. This is the third month Lampard has been nominated, after September and October (and winning the latter).
In fact, Lampard is the only nominee of the four to win all his games during the period in question, as Chelsea beat Everton 4-0 just before the lockdown, then recorded back-to-back 2-1 wins over Aston Villa and Manchester City in Project Restart. (The 3-2 defeat to West Ham occurred in July, technically, so that doesn’t count.)
Other nominees include fellow top-six contenders in Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solksjaer (3 wins, 2 draws) and Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo (4 wins, 1 draw). Newcastle United’s Steve Bruce (2 wins, 1 draw) rounds out the nominations.
You can vote for Frank Lampard over at the Premier League’s official website. Lampard won the award for October and was also nominated for September.
