Chelsea's Goalkeeper transfer summary

Hi guys! I've been on this site for several years now, but I rarely comment. This is my first post! But I enjoy the Hilario! And I love WAGNH.

I was just compiling this list to post in my Facebook group, but then I decided to make it a proper post. So, let's get into it. I'll try to make it as compact as possible. It's extremely likely that Chelsea will try to bring a new goalkeeper. Many names are being circulated, so I've prepared a brief summary for fans to keep a track of the targets and current GKs (as of now). You might find this very interesting. I am pretty sure I correctly copied all stats (taken from fbref).

1) Kepa Arrizabalaga (unlikely to be 1st choice now)

He has struggled a lot this season. In his entire Chelsea career, his save percentage is just 63.8%. He concedes nearly 1.13 goals per 90 mins. His pass completion is just 42%, and he claims just 7.4% of crosses. None of his stats are good enough for a first choice GK. Likely to be moved.

2) Willy Caballero (not good enough to be 1st choice)

His Chelsea stats are even worse than that of Kepa. He has saved around 62.1% save percentage and succeeds with around 40% of his passes. He concedes around 1.22 goals per 90. He is also not good enough to be the first choice.

3) Ugurcan Cakir (not good enough)

A goalkeeper from Turkish league, he was briefly linked to Chelsea. But let me tell you, he is also not good enough. He has 77.3% save percentage which may seem good. But when you ignore the weak Turkish leagues and consider Europa League only, he has save percentage of 44.4%. Overall, he has 43.4% pass success rate and claims 9.5% of crosses. He is worse than Kepa and Caballero.

4) Gianluigi Donnarumma (high fees + annoying agent, unlikely to happen)

Some fans seem to like him because they remember his name from years old reports. He is not a realistic target. First of all, his agent is Mino Raiola. Chelsea hates greedy agents and Raiola is the worst for Chelsea. He is good - 70.7% save in Serie A, 45.7% pass success, and 10.3% cross claims. Real Madrid prioritized him over Courtois but moved on because he is too expensive and the agent fees would also be very high. Chelsea won't pay in my view.

5) Dean Henderson (unlikely that ManU will sell him)

He has been very good for Sheffield United. But he a ManU player sent out on loan. With De Gea on the decline, ManU sees Henderson as a long-term player. He made 76.6% saves. He conceded 0.87 goals per 90 in the last two seasons. But he has only 29.4% successful passes and he claims just 7.4% of crosses. Although this might be partly because of his team's playing style and defenders. He is better than Kepa but it is hard to force ManU to sell him to us. I don't think Dean wants to come to Chelsea.

6) Jan Oblak (unlikely to come - depends on Kepa sale)

One of the best keepers in the world (he seems better due to Atletico's good defence too). Over his entire career, he has 78.4% save percentage! He also has over 40% pass success. He conceded 0.73 goals per 90 in the last two seasons. But it is worth noting that he has been not so good this season compared to the past. He claimed 10.1% crosses last season, but it's now down to 5.5%. His post-shot net goals (expected - actual) has gone down too from +0.33 per 90 mins to +0.01 this season. When Courtois forced his way out of Chelsea, the prime targets were Oblak and Alisson. We were ready to pay his 100m release clause, but he refused to join Chelsea. It's hard to see Chelsea spend 100m on another keeper until Kepa is sold.

7) Andre Onana (very possible transfer)

He is solid! 72.5% saves in Eredivisie and good in UCL too (76% last season, 85.7% this season). Pass success is only 34.9 percent in UCL. In UCL, he wins 14% of crosses! While Oblak may be the safest target, long term (both age-wise and monetarily) Onana sits above. He is already very good (conceded 0.87 goals per 90 in the last two seasons). Time will make him even better. If Kepa is not sold, Onana has a great chance to be transferred to Chelsea.

8) Predrag Rajkovic (not much chances)

Very inexperienced, this was his first season in a top 5 European league. But he impressed with 79.8% saves and just 0.67 goals conceded per 90. He has just 36.3% pass rate but he claims 10.1% of all crosses. If all other targets fail, Rajkovic might be a cheap option to give Arrizabalaga competition next season. He has a lot to prove, but he has shown some promising signs.

9) Thomas Strakosha (unlikely to happen)

He is a very good keeper. He saved 75.6% shots this season with 1.10 goals conceded per 90. He has been consistently good for several years now (73.3% saves in entire career). But in Europa League, he has just 53.1% shots saved (all time). In his career, he has just 5.4% crosses stopped. Pretty awful. But with less than 2 years left in his contract, there is a slight chance for this.

There are other rumored names, of course. Some are Nick Pope, Alphonse Areola, etc. But I don't think those are likely to happen, and there is not much serious interest in them from what I can tell. So, what do you think? Who might Chelsea bring in? I hope you gained some new insight by reading this. Thanks for reading. Cheers!

KTBFFH.
