PICTURES: Chelsea train, play intra-squad match at Stamford Bridge

Back in action!

The first week of contract training for Chelsea culminated in a session held at Stamford Bridge, complete with an intra-squad match, which apparently finished 1-1 (or maybe 4-3?). Ruben Loftus-Cheek reportedly scored at least one of the goals. Willian or Tammy may have gotten at least one as well.

The official website’s report is extremely light on details, but based on the pictures (especially the one where they’re circled up in the center), the two teams were:

BLUE:
Kepa | Mount, Loftus-Cheek, Bate, Azpilicueta, Michy, Tammy, Willian, Emerson, Jorginho, Pedro, Tomori, Broja

WHITE:
Cumming | Alonso, Pulisic, Kovačić, Zouma, Rüdiger, Anjorin, Lawrence (both wearing No.16!), Barkley, Gilmour, Giroud

At least one picture has Caballero in goal for the white team, so he probably traded off with the youngster Jamie Cumming. None of this is official, nor does it really matter all that much in the end, but it’s always fun to see how coaches decide to combine or not combine their players. Pulisic, Kovačić, and Gilmour on one team would be quite fun, for example, as would seeing Mount, Tammy, Tomori, and RLC all together once again as well.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James did not take part as precaution against some minor knocks, while N’Golo Kanté continues to hold out for social distancing reasons. No word yet on whether Andreas Christensen played or not.

Here are also some video highlights of the first week of proper training. Two weeks to go until GAME TIME!
