Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta shared his thoughts with Sky Sports on the spectacular coup that his club were able to pull off by signing Timo Werner.

Clearly, us fans aren’t the only ones are excited about the signing of the prolific Germany international.

“He’s an amazing attacking player with great experience in the Bundesliga where he has scored a lot of goals. He has great experience in the Champions League and Germany’s squad at international level. He’s a big addition for our club. He can raise our level.

“As I said before, he’s an amazing player, we know we have to help him to find the best position to score goals and also to adapt to the league as quickly as possible is very important. Hopefully we can be competing for the top next season.”

Werner certainly has the skill set to to be an instant success, though he will need the support of his teammates and the fans in order to do smoothly, efficiently, and hopefully without much delay.

For now, the general vibe is one of extreme excitement from everyone involved with Chelsea. For a cool €50m, Werner just might turn out to be the bargain of the summer.

The massive amount of experience he’s had at just 24, and of course his raw talent and eye for goal will all contribute to him being that “big addition” who could be the difference between a top-four challenge and a title challenge.
