It’s been two weeks since news broke of Timo Werner agreeing to join Chelsea this summer, but the 24-year-old had the temerity to play not only one but two games for RB Leipzig since without scoring a goal.
Outrageous!
But 30-goal players usually don’t go on long droughts — even if Timo is a somewhat streaky scorer — and on Wednesday, Werner put the world back on its axis with this excellently taken blast into the top corner against Fortuna Düssledorf.
BANG!
That’s goal number 32 in all competitions this season for Timo, although his team then contrived to give up their two-goal advantage to only draw 2-2 with the relegation-battlers. Werner had missed a big chance earlier in the game as well, though he did get flagged for offside so it wouldn’t have counted anyway.
Not to be left out of the party, potential Chelsea signing Kai Havertz was also on the scoresheet yesterday as Bayer Leverkusen moved back into fourth place with two games left in the season. Easy finish for the 21-year-old after a good run.
Havertz of course is just speculation at this point, while we are still waiting for official confirmation of the Werner signing (hopefully by the end of the month).
