Sassuolo keen to hold on to Jérémie Boga after buying out Chelsea option

No need to let him go so soon

After much pleading and negotiating, Sassuolo were finally able to convince Chelsea to forgo the buyback option on Jérémie Boga in exchange for a fee somewhere in the region of €10m. With that done, the Neroverdi will no longer have to worry about missing out on the big bucks from a potential Boga sale in the future — prices upwards of €30m have been mooted, with many clubs already interested in his talents.

However, Sassuolo aren’t planning on cashing in anytime soon. Ideally, they would retain the 23-year-old winger for another season, if not more.

“He has many offers from Italy and abroad. Sassuolo made a real effort to sign him outright and now we will evaluate the situation. The objective is to keep him with us, because we must have a project and focus on growth. Sacrificing the biggest names is sometimes necessary, but not always.

“Boga will continue to have clubs clamouring for him, and it’ll be good for us if he continues to get stronger. The aim is to keep him at Sassuolo.”

Despite his success this season, it would surely bode well for not just Sassuolo but Boga himself to stay one more season with the club where he’s guaranteed regular playing time and can thus showcase the full extent of his exciting skills.

And who knows, maybe when he’s worth €50m, Chelsea will become involved once again since that’s how we like to do things.
