All the good vibes of yesterday’s great result were tempered with the revelation from Frank Lampard that both Willian and Mateo Kovačić are feared to have picked up Achilles injuries during the 2-0 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup.
While Lampard sounded hopeful that Willian’s self-diagnosis means that the issue isn’t severe, the initial prognosis on Kovačić, who’s been arguably Chelsea’s best and most important player all season, sounds far less positive.
“Both have got Achilles issues. Willian hopefully isn’t too bad, that’s what he’s reporting. We’ll see tomorrow. Kovacic feels slightly worse, but hopefully not too drastic. We’ll see.”

So yeah, pretty much the last thing we need, especially given all the other injuries right now and practically all season. It would be comical, if it weren’t so tragic.
If true (and regardless of severity), that would make it four (4!!!) Achilles injuries for Chelsea in the past 12 months, adding to the ones Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek picked up last season. Hudson-Odoi was back in about six months though we’ve yet to see his best since. Loftus-Cheek is going on nine months now and still has yet to kick a ball for the first-team this season.
