1. MARCOS ALONSO (8.5)

Minutes: 90
Touches: 89
Passes: 50/63
Shots: 2**/7
Take-ons: 2/2
Fouls drawn: 1
Tackles+INTs+Blocks: 2+1+1
Aerial duels won: 2

Alonso for striker is hardly a new shout, serious or not — no, you were not the first to put it on Twitter or in the comments, I assure you — but there’s certainly something to be said for playing a tall, lanky attack-minded player with a sweet left foot in forward positions. Of course, part of the reason Alonso gets into so many shooting positions is because of his wing-back position, especially when Chelsea keep whipping the ball in from the right — he makes that second or third run better than most. But perhaps when we go back to a back-four, Alonso could be deployed as a left-winger of sorts, especially while our other, non-veteran options remain out

2. REECE JAMES (6.4)

Minutes: 90
Touches: 111
Passes: 67/73
Shots: 1/2
Take-ons: 2/4
Fouls drawn: 1
Tackles+INTs+Blocks: 1+1+1
Clearances: 2
Aerial duels won: 3

Speaking of whipping balls in from the right, here’s the man who does most of the whipping. James was back to his better self after the reality check of Storm Bayern on Tuesday night — a reminder that we need to stay patient with the kids, who will usually have more off-nights than more experienced players.

3. MATEO KOVAČIĆ (6.4)

Minutes: 90
Touches: 132
Passes: 102/118
Take-ons: 4/4
Tackles+INTs: 4+2

Bournemouth keyed a lot of their strategy around cutting off supply to Kovačić, but he still managed to exert plenty of influence on the match, collecting a match-high 132 touches and managing to go on a few runs through the middle as well.
