We are all well into the first weekend of no Premier League football. Chelsea players and staff had been sent home last week to self-isolate — another reminder that these professional players are just like us!
Many of us are in self-isolation or social distancing of some sorts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we navigate these weird and troubling times, many are left to review their streaming queue hoping to escape the crazy and frenzied world outside.
Chelsea had been running a series of articles with players that included streaming recommendations. At the time, they seemed frivolous. Now, they could be life-saving. Here’s a round-up.
A quick Google search should turn up where these shows might available to view in your area. Justwatch.com is also a wonderful resource.
Christian Pulisic
- Rhythm and Flow
Netflix’s answer to The Voice, hip hop artists Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, and T.I. judge unsigned rappers for a $250k prize.
I haven’t watched this aside from the few performances from Youtube just now. If you like hip-hop and musical reality shows, perhaps this is for you as well.
- Prison Break
Follows a man (Wentworth Miller) who is on a mission to break his brother out of prison.
This is an older series that debuted in the mid-aughts. Without going in to spoiler territory, this series lasted five seasons surrounding the prison break concept. You may enjoy the excitement like Pulisic, or perhaps feel a bit fatigued by the plot and cliffhangers.
- Ozark
A financial advisor (Jason Bateman) uproots his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks after he falls into a money laundering scheme with the Mexican cartel.
I enjoyed season 1 a lot, although I’ve had Season 2 in my queue for the longest time. Season 3 drops at the end of March, so if you are timing your binge, now is the time to start.

Willian
- Prison Break
- Power
A crime drama following a wealthy New York night club owner (Omari Hardwick) who lives a double life as a drug kingpin.
- Narcos
Seasons 1 and 2 follows the story of the Medellin Cartel and Pablo Escobar.
A favorite of many who frequent the Hilario, Narcos is a well received crime drama where bad men do bad things and good people get hurt.
It’s also a meme in these trying times.

Ashley Cole
- Stranger Things
Netflix’s first huge hit, which put their original content creation on the map and was a major reason we even have the concept of binge-watching. Stranger Things follows a group of young kids searching for their lost friend and dangers that they eventually uncover.
If you love the ‘80s pop culture, sci-fi and horror tropes, Winona Ryder, and teenage romance, this show is for you — all 3 seasons of it.
- Riverdale
American teen drama set in the Archie comics universe.
Cole claims his “missus got me into it”, but for anyone who loves a good guilty pleasure, Riverdale is a favorite of many. It doesn’t have good writing, and that’s okay. You get into these type of shows for the outlandish and bizarre plots.
- Breaking Bad
Walter White (Bryan Cranston) is a high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with lung cancer who turns to drug trade to support his family.
If you haven’t seen it, you should. There’s a clear reason why many consider this one of the best shows of its generation: it’s just good great television.
Now’s a great time for a Breaking Bad/@BetterCallSaul marathon. pic.twitter.com/ELbpmUGBe0

Tammy Abraham
- Brotherly Love
- Taken 3
Tammy picked two films to round out his top three. Haven’t seen Brotherly Love, and had no idea a third installment in the Taken franchise was even made. Not sure if the question of streaming shows was appropriately posed to Tammy..
- Money Heist (La Casa de Papel)
A group of unique bank robbers target the Royal Mint of Spain.
Tammy claims a lot of the boys are into it, and with good reason as Season 1 and 2 were addictive. Think Ocean’s Eleven mixed with your telenovela genre. The opening music and intro is one of my favorites.
Fikayo Tomori
- Prison Break
- Power
- How to Get Away with Murder
A group of law students and their criminal defense professor become embroiled in a murder plot.
A Shonda Rhimes special, if you follow her other series such as Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy. I’m a big fan of Viola Davis, and Season 1 was about as well done as one could for network television. The writers do a fantastic job setting up mysteries that unravel till the season’s climax.
Class is almost in session Until then, binge #HTGAWM anytime, on demand and on Hulu! pic.twitter.com/XEEIDcnw5u

Kurt Zouma
- Last Chance U
Award winning documentary following players and staff in an American junior college football program highlighting players on their last chance to rebound back into a top Division 1 program.
Even if you aren’t familiar with American football, this documentary series has received plaudits for its nonfiction storytelling. These are real lives and real people, and I’m a sucker for raw and compelling unscripted storytelling.
- Power
- Top Boy
Follows an underground drug ring run by two friends to become the richest on the block.
Haven’t had the chance to watch this, although the premise seems very familiar to ‘The Wire’, one of the best television series ever. Drake is a big fan. He even became an executive producer to the third season.

Cesc Fàbregas
Honorable mention to the magic hat himself. Fàbregas recently went on Twitter asking for recommendations as he’s already seen many, including those mentioned above.
If you have a favorite that’s not mentioned, drop it in the comments. Don’t forget to send Cesc your recommendation!
Since we have to stay at home for some time and my wife doesn’t allow me to have more kids (for now), what series do you guys recommend that have more than 4 seasons at least? @firstLadyD4

Ed.note: or just rewatch LOST, The Leftovers, Battlestar Galactica (reboot), Terriers, and Westworld (new season starts today!)
