More disastrous news, though this time they have nothing to do with coronavirus.
According to multiple reports, including “exclusive” from the Mail, Aston Villa could end up cutting short Danny Drinkwater’s loan and sending him back to Chelsea after he reportedly headbutted (HEADBUTTED) teammate Jota Peleteiro as part of a training ground bust up.
Apparently Villa have already held talks over his future on Tuesday, though it’s unclear at the moment what their final decision may be. At the very minimum, Drinkwater will face a heavy fine, but considering that he’s only on loan and has only made four appearances anyway, there could be very little reason to continue paying and keeping him.
Villa boss Dean Smith (and presumably assistant coach John Terry) are under pressure after dropping into the relegation zone. This is the last thing they need on their plate.
Drinkwater’s career since joining Chelsea in 2017 has taken a massive nosedive, with poor performances on the pitch (on the rare occasions the he does get to play) accompanied by various off-pitch incidents. He’s had chances on loan at Burnley and Aston Villa this season to try to get it together, but it doesn’t seem to be happening for him.
Even beyond the tremendous waste of club finances, it’s just sad to see a career wasted like that.
Incidentally, Villa host Chelsea this Saturday, assuming that football’s still a thing we do by then.
Believe Danny Drinkwater's future at #avfc is tonight in doubt after the midfielder was involved in a training ground bust-up with team-mate Jota. Sent home by Dean Smith and expected to be fined by the club. Story: https://t.co/IKIxF3IhRP
