After a fortnight of fun in the sun and time with the fam, Chelsea are back to work this weekend — well, Monday — as we take on Manchester United in a most crucial top-six six-pointer.
It’s the first of three home matches in the space of just eight days that could very well define the rest of the season. Back-to-back games against top-six rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will be followed by a Champions League test against powerhouse Bayern Munich. Stamford Bridge better be ready!
The players will of course know the magnitude of these games as well, which hopefully will mean that we’re ready and firing at our best. And that applies to one N’Golo Kanté as well, who’s shown in the last 6-9 months that while he may be human, he’s still the most adorable human — so if nothing else, let’s do it for NG!
“We are having an important time of the season because we are all fighting for the fourth position. Man United were a bit behind but now they have closed the gap so it’s a big opportunity either for us to keep them behind or for them to close the gap more. It’s an important game for both teams.”
“These are important games for the rest of our season because in the league there is a lot of competition for the top four. We know that Bayern Munich [in the CL] are a good team so we have to fight to go through from the last-16 and we know all about Liverpool [in the FA Cup] as well. The FA Cup is a beautiful cup in England and it can be another trophy for us. These are important games and we hope to manage them in the best way.”
The league title is long gone and the League Cup has fallen by the wayside as well, but Chelsea’s prospects in the top-four (top-five, thanks to Manchester City’s ban?) are still looking good and anything can happen in the FA Cup — or, for that matter, in the Champions League as well. Knockout competitions often produce unexpected results.
But we don’t have to rely on just luck, even if luck (good and bad) has been playing a massive role in our season so far. Kanté believes that Chelsea have everything that’s needed to achieve our goals.
“I believe we have the team to get what we want this season — to finish in the top four, get Champions League football next season and why not to win a title as well. We have everything that we need in this team.”

We set out this season with the intent to rebuild, reconnect, and reform many of the paradigms at Chelsea Football Club. We’ve been largely successful at all those things, and now we even have the chance to finish the season strong and keep up the competitive standards as well.
