Ruben Loftus-Cheek set to play for Chelsea U23

First action since injury!

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set for his next big step forward in his injury recovery, if yesterday’s report from the Daily Mail is to be believed.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who’s been out since May with an Achilles rupture, “has been pencilled in” to feature in Monday’s U23 (Development Squad) PL2 match against Arsenal. Pencil can be erased, so this isn’t 100 per cent certain, but Ruben did play about an hour in a training ground scrimmage against Brentford B last week, so this is the next logical progression from there — and also in line with the most recent prognosis from the club.

Unfortunately, the match, which will be at Arsenal U23’s home stadium in Boreham Wood, will not be televised, not even on Chelsea TV due to its clash with the first-team, who will be in action against Manchester United right around the same time. (So Chelsea TV will be doing their usual build-up and then audio commentary of that game, which kicks off one hour after this one.) And unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Arsenal stream any of their U23 matches for some reason.

Still, great news and hopefully no setbacks!
