The 17-match unbeaten run is over. Long live the next unbeaten run!
The damage to our Premier League position from Saturday’s defeat at Goodison Park has been minimal, with Spurs and Liverpool also dropping points. But the rest of the league are catching up, and making the top six a much more open free-for-all. Emerging from that mess will require consistency, determination, and of course wins.
We have a chance to immediately return to winning, as we head up to Molineux on Tuesday night to take on surprisingly toothless Wolves. Then again, Everton were on the schneid as well before this weekend. No easy games in the Premier League, certainly not away against good managers like Ancelotti or Nuno.
One immensely helpful development could be Christian Pulisic’s return to fitness, though Frank Lampard couldn’t quite guarantee that the 22-year-old would be ready to start following his latest hamstring injury. If he cannot, we’d once be left without an actual winger — so would we once against deploy a formation that relies on two?
