Chelsea’s first signing after the FIFA transfer ban was lifted, 17-year-old Bryan Fiabema has been nominated for the PL2 Player of the Month award for October. He has 4 goals in 4 appearances for the Development Squad this season (along with a solitary goal in a solitary appearance for the U18 side) and has earned rave reviews since he signing for the Blues in January.
He is joined by Isaac Fletcher (Middlesbrough), Joe Hugill (Man United), Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka (Sunderland), Cole Palmer (Man City) and Rhys Williams (Liverpool) on the shortlist. The shortlist was chosen by the Premier League Football Development panel, with PL2 club coaches nominating the best opposition player in each league fixture for the month.
In other academy news, Development Squad right back Henry Lawrence, who was rumored to be close to signing a new contract, has finally put pen to paper, the club have confirmed. His versatility and César Azpilicueta’s age means that we might get to see him in the first-team very soon.
