Mystery man Malang Sarr looks set to join FC Porto today, departing Chelsea on loan as has been expected since the club confirmed his signing earlier this summer.
Even in the official announcement of him arriving as a free agent, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia specifically targeted a loan for the defender, adding that we will be “closely monitoring” the 21-year-old wherever he ends up, with a view towards integrating him properly in the first-team at a future date.
That plan is shared by Sarr himself as well, as he told Telefoot on the eve of his departure to Portugal, where he’s apparently set to expand his defensive horizons.
“The goal [of the loan] is to have more playing time, to improve and be able to return [to Chelsea] to play.”

Sarr’s expected to complete his medical this morning, with an announcement of the season-long loan (without a buy-option) to follow soon after.
