Frank Lampard rolled out the 4-3-3 that the people wanted against Burnley this afternoon, including Christian Pulisic starting as the left winger.
Unfortunately, the 22-year-old has been injured in the pre-game warmup, and he’s been replaced by Timo Werner, who was due to have a rest after starting several in a row over the last couple weeks. Werner’s spot on the 7-man bench was taken by young goalkeeper Karlo Žiger, who was presumably the only other member of the traveling squad (we thus had two goalkeepers on the bench).
While Werner should provide a similar direct style off the left wing as Pulisic, the number and frequency of injuries for the young American continues to be a concern. He had just returned from a hamstring injury he suffered in the FA Cup final back in early August, and had spent half of last season dealing with an adductor injury and a couple other smaller niggles.
It’s unclear at this time what the latest injury may be, but hopefully his withdrawal is more precautionary than anything.
There's a late change to our starting team. @TimoWerner replaces @CPulisic_10 and young goalkeeper Karlo Ziger is on the bench. #BURCHE https://t.co/xs6tXhLhAm
